2020 gave rise to an influx of new content featuring South Asian voices like Never Have I Ever, White Tiger, and Indian Matchmaking. Does this represent a tidal wave in representation for South Asians and others in the BIPOC community? We're going to explore this question by hearing from two up and coming South Asian folks in Hollywood to understand their journey and their take on this issue.
Our first guest speaker is Kapil Talwalkar (@ktalwalk) who currently plays Tobin from Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist on NBC and Hulu. He's a USC educated actor who also has extensive experience performing in theater. Kapil is based out of LA though he's born and bred in the Bay Area in California. While he's not acting, Kapil also sings and is currently working on releasing his first album.
Tara Raani (@tara.raani) is our second guest speaker and based in Brooklyn. She's a woman of many talents: she's a professional model (currently signed by APM models), screenwriter, and actor. She graduated from Wellesley, where she produced and starred in a news satire show. She had a brief stint in the tech industry at Google before pursuing her creative passions full time, and has a lot of interesting insights across a bunch of different industries.
