Jesus came from the glory as the light and life of men. In John’s Gospel we have a quite different Jesus portrayed than the one in Matthew, Mark and Luke. It’s his Jerusalem ministry that’s in focus and much subtlety is woven into the narrative as he journeys towards the cross which, here in John, is a place of victory. It is finished! Presented by Richard George, director of The Way of The Spirit. For more information go to www.thewayofthespirit.com

Today’s sermon on the Holy Spirit comes from a larger series on the basic beliefs of the Christian faith. When it comes to the Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit —without a doubt, the Holy Spirit is the most mysterious of the three. It’s the one person we know the least about. There’s no better place in the Bible to learn about the Holy Spirit …

The Righteousness revealed in the Gospel is the Righteousness required to be saved, and is the Righteousness that must be received by faith to be justified by God. In this lesson, Dr. Michael Wright explains how any other man-made approach to salvation is offensive to God. Learn salvation comes by faith and is a free gift from God. Info: https://go…

1 Corinthians 15:1-11 (ESV) The Resurrection of Christ 15 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: tha…

The epistles are what I like to think of as “big-word books.” They teach us about abstract concepts like propitiation, redemption, atonement, and righteousness. This can be intimidating, but also enlightening. Today’s spiritual practice gives us grace for when we encounter big words in Scripture or big ideas. Our goal today is to also build our abi…

Today’s sermon on salvation comes from a larger series on the basic beliefs of the Christian faith. In this series, we’re following the outline of the Apostles’ Creed, the oldest summary of biblical doctrine. It says, “I believe in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.” This is encapsulated by the doctrine of …

Today we’re going to look at a fundamental belief of the Christian faith — the doctrine of the incarnation. It’s a belief that’s unique to the Christian faith, that the eternal, infinite God became a human being in Jesus Christ — a physical, limited, vulnerable, mortal being in history. The implications of this doctrine are vast and many, but we’re…

We’re looking at the basic beliefs of the Christian faith, and there’s no way to do that without getting to what the Bible says is wrong with us. It’s really obvious to everyone that human beings can do an awful lot of very bad things, really evil things. But why? Sociologists will say unjust social conditions and that oppression will result in vio…

1 Corinthians 15:12-34 (ESV) The Resurrection of the Dead 12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith …

This sermon is part of a series on the basic beliefs of the Christian faith. The outline we’re using is the Apostles’ Creed, and today we come to God. Many people believe in God, but they don’t know him personally. Moses believed in God, but it really wasn’t until the event with the burning bush in Exodus 3 that Moses came to see who God was and en…

In the Western world every year we hear more and more people say something like, “I don’t believe in God. I don’t have religious beliefs. I don’t have a religious preference.” This is a growing sentiment in our world today. So what is the future of Christian belief in a world in which fewer and fewer believe? We’re going to answer this question by …

It’s very typical to hear people in our Western culture say something like, “There are many good things in the Bible, absolutely. But there are also things in the Bible that are really outdated. There are things in the Bible we can’t accept anymore, because we have new insights.” How do we respond to that? Well, the place to go in the Bible to is t…

Ephesians 3:14-21 (ESV) Prayer for Spiritual Strength 14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through f…

Nothing is more foundational to the way in which you live than how you regard the Bible — how you approach it and how you understand it. This has a direct influence on how you actually live. When the Bible tells you something happened, it really happened. This has to do with the truth of the Bible. But even if you believe it, what role should that …

There’s nothing more foundational to who you are as a Christian than how you regard the Bible itself. How do you approach the Bible? How do you understand the Bible? These are fundamental questions to everything else you do as a Christian. Today we’re looking at the bookends of the book of Luke, which is one of the four gospels in the New Testament…

All the Hebrew prophets in the Old Testament prophesied the coming of the Messiah. Christians believe that this Messiah they prophesied was born at Christmas and his name is Jesus. Today we’re going to look at what Hosea said about the coming Messiah in chapter 3. He tells us about the “one who is to come” through the account of his messed-up marri…

In Ephesians 5, Paul says, “This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.” This verse is teaching us that there are some things we would never know about marriage if we don’t know about how you relate to Christ by faith. Conversely, there are things we would never know about our relationship with Christ if we didn’t know …

Christianity, depending on the culture it’s sitting in, can be either liberal or conservative in its appearance. That’s the way it ought to be. If Christianity is revealed truth from God, then it doesn’t arise out of one side of the spectrum or the other. If you come to the Bible saying, “Is this left or right or sort of halfway in between?” you’ll…

Romans 3:1-20. In this chapter, the apostle Paul addresses (1) Man’s Guilt (he is a sinner), (2) God’s Judgement (all will be judged). This passage serves as a transition from the Doctrine of Sin to the Doctrine of Justification, which will be released in forthcoming episodes. Dr. Wright explains how first century lessons make for excellent twenty-…

In the Bible, the word flesh doesn’t simply mean your body. It doesn’t simply mean what the English word flesh means, which always means simply skin, sinew, blood, and guts. Actually, there’s a place in the Bible where God says, “I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh…” That doesn’t mean, “I will pour out my Spirit on everybody’s body.” It means,…

1 Corinthians 14:1-25 (ESV) Prophecy and Tongues 14 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. 3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuildi…

Marriage is not romance garnished with friendship. It’s not in essence romance and attraction, and friendship is thrown in as a wonderful little option, a wonderful little plus if you can get it. Rather, marriage is friendship with romance garnishing and flavoring it. Furthermore, friendship is not just a feeling of affection. Friendship is a deep …

Marriage is many things. Marriage is glorious. Marriage is hard. It’s blood, sweat and tears. It’s defeats, and it’s victories. It’s almost everything except sweet. We’re going to see the Bible’s view of marriage is completely realistic. The topic we now come to is the purpose of marriage. We’ve looked at the power and the definition, the priority …

We’re looking at marriage in this passage under six headings. We’re looking at the power of marriage, the definition of marriage, the priority of marriage, the purpose of marriage, the structure of marriage, and the mystery of marriage. So far, we’ve only looked at the first two. We now want to get to the third: the priority of marriage. This sermo…
